Can good works a remedy for not believing in God?

Full Question:

If I am a good person, consciously don't try to cause none harm, I do not steal, I go out of my way to help anyone in need, yet do you believe I will go to hell for not believing in god, I deserve to go to hell for simply not believing in god? Can good works be a remedy for not believing in God?

Answer:

This is a good question and I know many people who does good works need an excellent answer for this. First of all there is a very serious error in this question which is due to the usage of the words 'good person'. I am here remembering the conversation between Jesus Christ and some local officials. Luke 18:18 "A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone."

By the above verse it is so clear that, no persons in this world is good. It is very difficult to understand this even to me, because I also know persons who are dedicated to live their life for the poor, broken-heart, orphans, widows and many people who are suffering from severe diseases and natural and human disasters. Jesus also know that there are persons in this world with these mind and with a heart too support. Still Jesus is telling that no one is good. If Jesus said that, there should be certain important things which makes human being bad than all his good works. We can see that.

The most important thing for which no one is good because the first human Adam and Eve disobeyed God and allowed the sin to enter in this world. Thus each and every man lived in this world committed sins in one way or another. What happened is said in Romans 3 saying, "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law."

Another point is God is our father and not believing in God is just like rejecting God. Consider an example in this earth. A father have a son who are good in every works like helping people, giving a hand for the poor, comforts the sad, giving jobs to the jobless and so on. The only problem for him is he don't like his father, he consider him as a stranger and he reject his father totally. May I ask you dear, is the father satisfied with that?, Is it right for him to behave so for that his father helped, cared and brought him up to this stage?, Is the father happy to get the rejections from his own son just due to the son's good works. We all know that this is not right and a good father can not be satisfied with such good works of his son. Similar is the case with God. He is our father who is the reason for our birth and the one who protected us till this day. He expect us to believe in him and to respect him as God and to do good works to other people to help them.

Some times you may ask why is it so? It is because, we all are sinned and fallen short from the glory of God. At that time hell is our only hope. But God send his one and only son Jesus to this earth to save this world due to his love towards us. Rejecting God by not believing in him is just like rejecting the great way of salvation which God given us through Jesus Christ. As it is written in Bible like, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

Accepting this salvation is more than millions of good work. The importance of salvation cannot be compared with some good works. If I say it with the help of some parables, Doing good works by rejecting God is like collecting lot of helpless people and to put them in your basket where there is a great hole. You should first believe in Jesus and close that hole. Then what you are collecting will be there in your basket. It is also like receiving the reward for helping people in a sack cloth
where there is a great tear. First you have to parch that tear with salvation of God and then you have to collect your rewards for helping people in that sack cloth and carry it to heaven. Mathematically, all good works is just like collecting many zeros resulting in a number of zeros with no value(say 00000). But you make it a valuable number you have to first add a one before that by accepting and believing God.(say 10000). Hope you understand this very clearly.

Sometimes you may ask is there not even a single use for doing good works while not believe in God. Here I have to say something personally from what I have learned from many incidents. It is like, Satan is always trying to hit and crash everyone who don't believe in God. All those who don't believe in God really deserve it, but Satan need permission from God to crash and hit them. Many times God didn't grant him permission considering our good works just as a 'grace'. Its called grace because, He is giving it to us even if we don't deserve it. But I can assuredly tell you, no one will enter into the heaven with his good works and by rejecting God.

Hope you understand everything clearly and May God bless you with this answer and to receive a great reward for your good works in heaven by believing in Him.
